Open enrollment: Don’t miss the December 15 deadline!

Published December 11, 2014

Open enrollment on the healthcare marketplace runs until February 15, 2015, but December 15, 2014 is the last day to enroll in coverage that begins on January 1, 2015. The clock is ticking, so act fast!

If you miss that deadline, you can still enroll in new coverage until February 15, but you’ll have to wait for your new coverage to begin.

If you purchased coverage through the marketplace last year and want to keep it, you will be automatically enrolled in the same or a similar policy without having to take any action. But, December 15, 2014, is an important deadline for you, too. That’s the day by which your financial and family information must be updated with the government in order to be sure you receive the correct financial help when your new plan begins in January.

There are many factors that affect the amount of financial help for which you are eligible, like changes to your income or family status. Things like getting a new job, getting married or having a baby can affect the amount of help you qualify to receive, so it’s important to make sure your information is up to date. If you miss the deadline, you can still update your information with the government, but there will be a delay in adjusting your monthly payment.

If you have questions, contact your local Blue Cross and Blue Shield company. Representatives are standing by to help you understand how to update your financial information with the government, or enroll in a new policy. Or, check out the video below!
