Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont Provides Support, Volunteers To AHA Go Red For Women Event

Berlin, VT – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross) encourages everyone to join the fight to reduce the effects of heart disease and stroke on women. This year Blue Cross affirms its strong commitment to the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women luncheon through a range of contributions, from financial support to event planning and staffing, and leading an event breakout session.

Blue Cross will play a key role in virtually every aspect of the 2019 luncheon, which will be held on Friday, April 12. Wendy Grant of Blue Cross has donated her time and expertise to the planning committee, and vice president of consumer planning, Catherine Hamilton, will lead one of the education breakout sessions prior to the luncheon. In addition, Blue Cross is donating prizes to the silent auction that is part of the luncheon.

“The Go Red for Women luncheon has become the preeminent event in our community to highlight the impact of heart disease and stroke on women and the steps we can take to counter these serious health issues,” explains Megan Peek, Blue Cross director of community relations and health education. “We are dedicated to partnering with organizations like the American Heart Association to identify and promote new and creative initiatives that empower and encourage women to live healthier lives.”

Blue Cross has long supported Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association’s (AHA) crucial work to raise awareness and reduce the impact of heart disease and stroke on women. This year, Blue Cross employees raised over $600 for the AHA on “Wear Red Day.” They also hosted Heart Walk events at their Berlin office, and the AHA bestowed its Crystal Heart award on Blue Cross president and CEO Don George in 2016 in recognition of his contributions to the organization’s community events.

Tickets for the Go Red for Women luncheon are available online through the AHA’s website. For more information on the event, please contact Nancy Luke at (802) 349-2418 or at Nancy.Luke@heart.org.
