Over the last 20 years, the United States has made great strides in expanding access to quality health insurance and reducing the number of people without coverage. However, health care costs continue to rise, threatening accessibility and affordability for American families and businesses.
The reason for this affordability crisis is clear: rising prices for health care services and prescription drugs. Real affordability solutions must address the root causes of rising prices, including anti-competitive practices and misaligned incentives across the system.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are working with local and national partners to tackle the affordability crisis and make health care more affordable for everyone. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has put forth Affordability Solutions for the Health of America—a solution to lawmakers that would reduce health care costs by $767 billion over 10 years.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is an association of independent, locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies.
