This report specifically studies anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction characterized by a sudden drop in blood pressure and difficulty breathing), dermatitis (inflamed skin or skin rash) and rhinitis (runny, stuffy nose).3,4 The study analyzes how many young BCBS members were diagnosed with any type of allergy and the number of emergency room visits those members made from 2010 to 2016. The scope of the research includes approximately 9.6 million commercially insured American children age 18 and under per year.
