    Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Of New Jersey And Hackensack-Physician Hospital Alliance Kick-Off Collaborative Accountable Care Organization 

    Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) and Hackensack-Physician Hospital Alliance (HackensackAlliance) ACO announced the launch of a collaborative Accountable Care Organization (ACO) agreement to improve care and patient outcomes for over 16,000 Horizon BCBSNJ members. More than 450 primary care doctors practicing at approximately 40 practice locations in Bergen County are participating in this ACO.

BCBSRI will continue operations of its Warwick retail location in response to ongoing demand from consumers and supporting individuals who may be choosing insurance before the end of open enrollment on March 31.     Anthem Blue Cross And Blue Shield Announces Winners Of The Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge  

    Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado today announced the winners of the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge. An effort between Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Radio Disney, the #1 radio network for kids, tweens and families, Get Active, Get Fit is designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities. To successfully complete the challenge, students had to be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days during the event, which ran from September 30 through November 23, 2013.

    Gubby Barlow To Retire, Jeff Roe Appointed CEO Of Premera Effective October 1  

    Premera Blue Cross today announced that Gubby Barlow will step down as Chief Executive Officer on September 30 of this year. Current President Jeff Roe has been appointed the next CEO of the Premera family of companies, effective October 1. Barlow will remain with Premera in an executive capacity to assist Roe in the transition until the end of the year.

    Blue Shield Of California And Inland Empire Physician Groups Launch Accountable Care Initiative 

    Blue Shield of California and EPIC Health Plan, part of EPIC Management, L.P., announced today a two-year accountable care initiative to provide integrated, cost-efficient care to Blue Shield HMO members in the Inland Empire. The Accountable Care Organization (ACO) will include six medical groups managed by EPIC Management, L.P., and will provide coordinated care for approximately 27,300 members. Approximately 7,000 of these enrollees are members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), while an additional 7,500 are employees of the County of San Bernardino. The organizations expect this collaboration to result in decreased healthcare cost trends for these members during the two years of the collaboration.

    Blue Cross has been recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for providing a culture of corporate wellness with extraordinary, tangible results. A Community Innovation Award was also presented to Blue Cross for the Company’s commitment to fighting childhood obesity in Alabama through the “Healthy Hanna” program. This initiative encourages children to live a healthy lifestyle by eating right, exercising and practicing good hygiene. Healthy Hanna materials are designed for children four to eight years old and are distributed to daycare centers and elementary schools.

    Independence Blue Cross Hosts Health Insurance Enroll-A-Thon 

    With the end of the first open enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act just 18 days away, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) is hosting an all-day enroll-a-thon today to help individuals get the coverage they need under the new health care law before the March 31 deadline. As part of the enroll-a-thon activities, the company is participating in a televised event over the course of 16 hours on WPHL17. In addition, IBC licensed sales agents are stationed at a local suburban shopping center and at LOVE Park downtown to help consumers understand, choose, and purchase health coverage.

    Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Kansas Statement On Continuation Of Non-Grandfathered Plans 

    Federal regulators recently announced they would allow insurers, with their state's approval, to continue to offer – through Oct. 1, 2016 – the non-grandfathered individual and small group plans that had previously been extended for one additional year. On March 6, Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger announced that her department would allow insurers operating in Kansas to extend these plans through Oct. 1, 2016, leaving the final decision up to each insurer.
