Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Statement on Health Care Tax Credit

WASHINGTON – The clock is ticking. We’re weeks away from millions of Americans seeing their health insurance premiums skyrocket.

As open enrollment in the individual Marketplace nears on November 1, families across the country are learning that the health care tax credit that allows them to afford coverage will end next year. Unless Congress acts, their premiums will nearly double, and millions will lose coverage.

Leaders in Washington know the importance of affordable health care coverage. They know the consequences people pay when they can’t access the care they need when they need it. And they know how critical it is to lower costs for families living paycheck to paycheck.

They can deliver for the American people by coming together to find a solution to extend the health care tax credit. Each day the federal government remains closed is another day without a solution.

There is still time to act, to avoid the massive premium spikes that would put coverage out of reach for millions of families. We remain ready to help leaders in Washington find a bipartisan solution that protects coverage and delivers real affordable choice.
