Disability Coverage

Life is unpredictable. BCBSA offers the following disability coverage options to help our employees protect their financial well-being in case of an unexpected illness or injury:

Life Insurance

Who will protect and support your family if you are gone? Life insurance offers an important source of financial protection. We offer our employees the following options for life insurance coverage*: 

  • Basic term life at no cost
  • Option to purchase additional life insurance
  • Option to purchase supplemental group universal life insurance for self and/or dependent

Global Traveler Companion

Employees enrolled in Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield are eligible for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Global Traveler Companion benefits. The benefit provides health care coverage when traveling internationally for business and personal reasons.


Transparency in Coverage Rule

For all health plans available to BCBSA employees, the Transparency in Coverage Final Rule requires disclosure of the negotiated rates with in-network providers and the historic allowed amounts paid to out-of-network providers. To help our employees save on commuting costs, we offer the option of purchasing mass transit cards and parking passes on a pre-tax basis through payroll deduction.
