Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Statement on the White House’s Efforts to Strengthen the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid

WASHINGTON – Today, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association President and CEO Kim Keck issued the following statement on the Biden administration’s actions to enhance the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. This afternoon, Keck will attend the White House’s event where the administration plans to announce ways to lower health care costs for families.

“We share the White House’s goal of accessible, affordable quality health care for all Americans. That’s why Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies were part of the ACA marketplace from the very beginning and stayed in – bringing new health insurance options to families across the country.

Now that there’s a path to get everyone covered, we call on Congress to make the American Rescue Plan Act tax credits permanent. The expiration of these credits could mean a premium increase of $200 a month – a cost hardworking families can’t endure. Let’s not walk away from the 6 million people who gained marketplace coverage because of these credits. Instead, let’s turn our national attention to making the medical services and prescription drugs we all rely on more affordable in the first place. Let’s tackle high prices, together.”

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is an association of 35 independent, locally operated Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield companies.
