Subtitle A Series of Free, Family-Friendly Events during Winter Break Buffalo — BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York presents Fearless February, a series of free, healthy activities for families to enjoy during Winter Break. Fearless February includes a mix of indoor and outdoor events taking place across Western New York. The series kicks off inside UB’s Alumni Arena - home of the UB Bulls - for Family Day on Sunday, February 18 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. For the fourth year in a row, BlueCross BlueShield will transform the 40,000 sq. foot gym into a giant playground so families can enjoy an afternoon of sports-themed activities, bounce houses and pictures with Victor E. Bull. New this year is a “Toddler Area” for all the youngsters in attendance. Participants will also have access to the UB Aquatics Center, featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Those looking for some ice-time have a number of free options during Winter Break as part of Fearless February. Participants can lace up their skates and hit the Ice at Canalside on Wednesday, February 21 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. And on Thursday, February 22, families can join Sabretooth at the Healthy Zone Rink in East Aurora from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Admission to both events is free and skate rentals will be available for purchase. Skaters can warm up with a hot chocolate or coffee, compliments of BlueCross BlueShield. Additionally, the historic basin at MLK Jr. Park - a designated BlueCross BlueShield Healthy Zone - will be open all week long for free, pond-style ice-skating. Skates are free and available to borrow for all participants. Skating is weather dependent; individuals are encouraged to call the “Ice Line” at 716-838-1249 ext. 17 for availability. For parents that are looking for a fun way to end the week exercising with their children, they can join the local health plan at Niagara Community Center on Saturday, February 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Activities include sports, family-friendly games, two LaMovement dance fitness classes and more. “Fearless is getting out and enjoying winter in Buffalo,” said Cait Zulewski, Director of Corporate Relations, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. “That’s why BlueCross BlueShield is thrilled to present Fearless February, so families in our community have opportunities to stay healthy even in the coldest months.” All events are free and open to the public. Wednesday, February 21 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Free Skate at Canalside 44 Prime St Buffalo, NY 14202 Participants can enjoy two hours of free ice skating, followed by a free hot beverage, courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield. Rentals will be available for purchase. Thursday, February 22 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Free Skate at the Healthy Zone Rink 41 Riley Street East Aurora, NY 14052 Participants skate for free at the outdoor rink with Sabretooth. Skate rentals will be available for $3.00. BlueCross BlueShield’s community relations team will be on-site handing out vouchers for free hot chocolate and coffee. Saturday, February 24 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Family Day at the Niagara Community Center 530 66th Street Niagara Falls, NY 14304 Participants can get active and stay warm at Family Day at Niagara Community Center, featuring sports activities, games, two LaMovement dance fitness classes, and plenty of family-friendly fun!
