Caregiving touches us all: healthcare leaders share their stories

Published October 27, 2020

Three healthcare leaders share their personal stories of caring for loved ones. Their experiences underscore how health plans can lead the way when it comes to supporting caregivers and their loved ones.

Unpaid caregivers are all around us. It could be a son taking care of a father with dementia, a mother taking care of a child with significant medical problems or someone taking care of both aging parents and young children at the same time. Some caregivers wouldn't have it any other way, but the work can be isolating and stressful. And the toll caregiving is taking on caregivers' health is heavy - especially during a global pandemic.

One in four unpaid caregivers are feeling more stress trying to balance work and family (Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association National Pulse Survey, May 2020). Many caregivers are reporting higher rates of loneliness and isolation. (2020 ARCHANGELS National Caregiver Survey).

Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies across the country are acknowledging the need to support caregivers with resources, uncover their particular health challenges and raise awareness about their needs.

In this video, Andrew Dreyfus, President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Patrick Geraghty, President and CEO of Florida Blue and Mark Ganz, CEO, Cambia Health Solutions share how caregiving has touched their lives.
