Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) companies are committed to providing you with access to high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage. We are the nation's oldest, most experienced health insurers, partnering with hospitals and doctors to serve Americans in the communities where they live and work.

Individuals and Businesses

For Americans who purchase coverage for themselves or their families, Blue Cross Blue Shield companies have the largest selection of insurance plans available. In addition to plans that you can purchase from us directly, BCBS companies also offer insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces and participate in more regions of the country, with more coverage options offered, than any other insurer.

Large Companies

The Blue Cross Blue Shield system allows us to leverage our community-based healthcare on a national scale, providing comprehensive yet cost-effective coverage for those who work for large national employers. Today, Blue Cross Blue Shield companies cover 82 of America’s Fortune® 100 employers. We understand your unique needs and challenges and will partner with you to create meaningful solutions designed for your organization and employees.

Federal Employees

In the late 1950s, the government passed the Federal Employees Health Benefits Act and turned to BCBS companies as valuable partners to provide coverage to federal employees across the country. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program (FEP®) now covers more than 5.6 million federal government employees, dependents and retirees, and 9 out of 10 members surveyed said they’d recommend FEP to other federal employees. We’re proud to earn their trust, year after year, as the program continues to grow.

Organized Labor

From generation to generation, Blue Cross Blue Shield companies have worked hand in hand with organized labor to empower working Americans with the health coverage they deserve. The Blue Cross Blue Shield National Labor Office is labor’s liaison to our community-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, ensuring that Blue Cross Blue Shield products and services meet working families’ healthcare needs. Our companies serve more than 18 million unionized workers, retirees and their families — more than any other insurer. We are committed to remaining the top choice for America’s working families for years to come.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is an association of 35 independent, locally operated Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield companies.
