For more than 85 years, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) companies have worked to protect the health and information of BCBS members and the communities we serve. Throughout this time, the priority of every BCBS company has been to provide security and stability to each customer. The 36 independent BCBS companies stand together in a collective commitment to protect the health and information of our members, working tirelessly to help our members manage and protect personal information.

BCBS companies offer identity protection services from leading identity protection services companies to eligible BCBS members on an opt-in basis where permitted by local regulation and subject to certain local market limitations. This offering includes:

  • Credit monitoring – Monitors activity that may affect credit.
  • Fraud detection – Identifies potentially fraudulent use of identity or credit.
  • Fraud resolution support – Assists members in addressing issues that arise in relation to credit monitoring and fraud detection.

The identity protection services are being offered to eligible members as a convenience and should not be considered covered health benefits or services, health insurance, a guarantee of coverage under your health benefit plan, or legal, financial or medical advice. Eligible members include those members enrolled in a core health benefit plan/policy with a local BCBS company. Exceptions may apply, as when an employer declines the services, or due to contractual or regulatory issues. Members enrolled in the Federal Employee Program (FEP®)/Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), Medicare, and Part D products are not eligible at this time. Members enrolled in individual, group, Medicare Supplement, or Medicaid/CHIP programs may be eligible—subject to state regulation. More information can be provided to you by your local BCBS company. Each BCBS company is responsible for the information that it provides.

All disputes, issues and inquiries regarding the identity protection services will be addressed by the applicable identity protection vendor. Identity protection services will be subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable identity protection vendor. Each identity protection vendor is solely responsible for the provision of identity protection services to eligible members. In no event will the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), any BCBS company, or any of their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, employees or agents assume liability for any damage or injury or for any loss incurred or sustained, as a result of any acts or omissions relating to identity protection services offered or provided by an identity protection vendor to a BCBS member under a vendor’s written agreement with BCBSA or any BCBS company. Offering or providing identity protection services by an identity protection vendor under a vendor’s written agreement with BCBSA or any BCBS company should not be considered an inducement to purchase health coverage or any other product from a BCBS company or an endorsement by BCBSA or any BCBS company of a particular identity protection service or vendor. Please see the BCBS.com website Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
