Video: Making care accessible for victims displaced by historic wildfire

In 2018, one of the worst wildfires in U.S. history claimed 85 lives in Butte County, Calif. More than 18,000 homes and businesses were destroyed, including the Paradise Medical Group’s main clinic building. Since then, Blue Shield of California has invested nearly $2 million to restore healthcare delivery and provide new ways to connect with patients. Because so many residents were displaced from their homes, the investment supported the creation of a new service called PMG Connect that allows patients to see their doctor face-to-face through video on smart phones, tablets and computers. The technology is available to all patients regardless of their health plan. Physicians will be able to treat an array of conditions, including upper respiratory infections, which are common among fire survivors.
