--BlueCross BlueShield Encourages Western New Yorkers to Stick to a Healthy Game Plan--

Buffalo, N.Y. – In the days leading to the big game, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York is providing simple tips to help Western New Yorkers maintain a healthy, balanced diet.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Americans eat more food during the big game than any other day of the year except Thanksgiving.

“Having a game plan in place before the players hit the field can ensure you are eating and drinking in moderation all day Sunday,” said Kelly Hahl, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York Manager, Health and Wellness Programs. “BlueCross BlueShield has innovative, online resources to help members manage nutrition, physical fitness and weight throughout the year that can be especially helpful on days of celebration.”

The key to not disrupting your diet is the same with any holiday or party. Try following these simple tips:
•    Do not skip meals leading up to the event. This will help curb your appetite and control what you’re eating during the game.

•    Exercise in the morning. Set the tone by exercising before the game. Try moving around after every quarter or use commercial breaks for fitness fun.

•    Be thoughtful in your choices when snacking. The easiest way to ensure you’ll have healthy options in front of you while watching the game is to bring your own dish to share.

•    Liquid calories count. Alternate any caloric drink with a glass of water or another non-caloric drink.
