Long-term investment will help the nonprofit reach underserved communities across the region

BOISE – Today, Regence BlueShield of Idaho announces a two-year partnership with Girls on the Run Treasure Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides programs featuring physical activity and youth empowerment for elementary school-aged girls.

A national organization with local councils in all 50 states, Girls on the Run uses an intentional curriculum that promotes activity and teaches critical life skills on topics such as responsibility, gratitude and diversity. The 10-week fall and spring programs inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident during this critical period of development. The young participants also prepare for a 5K run which takes place at the end of each season.

Regence’s $35,000 grant, which runs through fall 2020, will support the organization’s continued expansion across the Treasure Valley to reach more girls and build the next generation of fearless, confident women. An additional contribution will enable the organization to hire a photographer to document the trainings and provide additional exposure for the program.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Regence, as we are poised to enter our largest fall season ever,” said Toni Ramey, executive director of Girls on the Run of Treasure Valley. “Through this partnership, we can reach more girls, especially those in underserved areas where healthy after-school activities are limited, while also better supporting the coaches who are truly the backbone of our program.”

“As an Idaho company, Regence is committed to improving the health of our communities,” said Sean Robbins, president of Regence BlueShield of Idaho. “Together with Girls on the Run, we are promoting the importance of good health and confidence that helps create the foundation for the next generation of women leaders.”

Girls on the Run Treasure Valley’s fall season begins on Sept. 9. To learn more about the program, including registration and volunteer opportunities, please visit https://www.gotrtv.org.
